Single Review: High on Fire, “Fertile Green”

“Raw, in your face, skull crushing metal” is how youtube user Xineohp37 describes the new High on Fire single “Fertile Green.” From the first thirty seconds of the song it is clear that the album De Vermis Mysteriis is going to be leagues better than High on Fire’s previous release Snakes for the Divine. The production is much better than Snakes, the vocals are not overly loud and the instruments are all clear and easy to hear. Created by ex-Sleep guitarist Matt Pike, High on Fire is another stoner/sludge metal venture, but leans more to the metal side of heavy metal. “Fertile Green” is all about pure heaviness and groove and is a sign that De Vermis Mysteriis will almost definitely kick Snakes for the Divine’s ass all up and down town.
