Little Green Cars have been around unofficially since 2008 but have only just now been getting more recognition around the world. Heralding from Dublin, one of their first singles, “The John Wayne”, helped the band break out over here in America. Picked up by Glassnote Records, famous for Mumford and Sons and Two Door Cinema Club, the band is finally releasing their debut full album.
Water Liars are a band that likes to play it safe. Falling somewhere in the vicinity of country, folk, and blues, their brand of southern heartache is one we’ve heard before. All 11 tracks float along at a similar lethargic, breezy pace, and before you know it, the final track is coming to a close just about 40 minutes later. But The Last Bison, unlike Mumford, is all-American, and they won’t let you forget it. So I’ve realized that I’m not actually reviewing albums in the sense of saying this one is awesome, or this one stinks… I do not think, however, that this is a bad thing. I can explain again how classical albums are essentially interpretations of a composer’s genius, and how a performer conceptualizes the true sound of a composer profoundly shapes the sound of the album. When I stumbled upon this new band that played South by South West last week, they appeared more than a little odd at first glance. Two matching girls with rakishly tilted yellow bows on their heads, geometrically patterned blouses and delightfully bright red lips stood hesitantly in front of three men in matching suspenders.
