“Dark Necessities” – Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been making consistently great music since their formation in 1983. They’ve been around almost twice as long as I have, and have put out ten studio albums, with an eleventh set for release next month. The lead single, “Dark Necessities,” came out yesterday, giving us a taste of what’s ahead for the Chili Peppers.

Although the group has involved new people on this album, including Danger Mouse (The Black Keys, Portugal. The Man, Adele) and Nigel Godrich (Radiohead), they’ve still managed to maintain the classic RHCP sound. Blending familiar bass funkiness with the broad, searching feel of a ballad, “Dark Necessities” is proof that you should be very excited about their upcoming album. You can pre-order The Getaway here.
