After a timely hiatus from her debut album entitled “Product,” SOPHIE has dropped her latest single “Faceshopping,” an audibly twisted yet flawless track that takes us back to the producers experimental roots.
The sensual release of “It’s Okay To Cry” properly introduced the new era of the London-based producer to the world, which makes sense since SOPHIE announced the single/music video pairing with the caption “WHOLE NEW WORLD” on social media. “Ponyboy,” SOPHIE’s second single, was (and still is) the dark and instrumentally-heavy underground banger that ties back to the textural roots of SOPHIE’s productional work. After a few live debuts accompanied by face-melting visuals, the highly anticipated “Faceshopping” has hit the music-streaming waves.
The track fluctuates between a calming repetitive chorus by Mozart’s Sister (known as Cecile Believe) and aggressively distorted versus served by SOPHIE that come from a place of dysfunction and experience. The dualistic vocals accompany the heavy instrumentals that heighten with intensity as the song progresses. A passionate break down by Mozart’s Sister mid-song captivates you in a dream-like state, with lyrics like “do you feel what I feel, do you see what I see,” only to be followed up by a round house of hyperreal instrumentals that take you back to the satisfyingly dysphoric space “Faceshopping” alludes.
With three singles in less than six months, it’s safe to say that SOPHIE will welcome an abundance of music for us in 2018.
