Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real is a Band for All Ages

Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real (POTR) gave a stunning live performance at the Lincoln Theatre last weekend. Their concert combined songs from their latest album, A Few Stars Apart (2021), with classic POTR hits. To lead off the concert, POTR played their classic “Start to Go,” which instantly brought the venue to life. The Lincoln Theater is a seated theater, but as soon as the band hit their first chord, the audience was on their feet.

Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real continued with “Perennial Bloom” and other hits from their new album, A Few Stars Apart. Despite releasing their album in June of this year, the audience knew all the lyrics and were singing right along with Lukas. Donning cowboy hats, blue jeans, and boots, fans abandoned their seats and flooded the aisles, hoping to get closer to the action. Lukas Nelson played at the very edge of the stage, often leaning into the crowd and encouraging them to sing along.

The band itself was in some ways more lively than the audience. After every song, Lukas and bassist Corey McCormick would leap into the air to play their final note. POTR also showed off their wide musical range by changing the instrument composition of each song. Each musician is very talented and can play several different instruments, which made the concert feel like a jam session among friends. The whole event was thrilling and an absolute joy to watch.

Live music is back in full swing in Washington, DC. Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real made that abundantly clear with their fiery live show that was fun for all ages at the Lincoln Theater.
