Playlist: Heat Wave
As we approach the end of July down in DC, the temperature is starting to flirt with triple digits. The air outside is thick with humidity, weighing us down and threatening to reduce us to sticky pools of sweat if we don’t find shelter. It can be tempting to rush from one indoor air-conditioned sanctuary to the next, but we can also embrace the heat, at least for a little while. This is the playlist to sucking it up, sitting yourself down on the burning leather seats of your car and rolling down the windows. To hiding from the afternoon sun under the shade of a tree on the front lawn. To kicking your feet up and reclining on the back porch with a bunch of friends and a cold one in the evening. You’ll find sweltering stomps to match the slow, heavy steps of passersby. Quivering percussion and riffs flit around like the hot trembling air hovering above the blocks of pavement ahead of you. Spacious desert dirges will transport you from the baking urban sidewalks to parched sands and distant mirages. And every once in a while, a melody floats in like a soft breeze to cool off foreheads peppered with beads of sweat. Here’s to riding the heat wave.
