Preview: Preoccupations @ DC9 11/16

Mark your calendars folks, Preoccupations is gracing the stages of DC9 this Wednesday, November 16th at 8pm. The Canadian post-punk group is touring with their new album arrangements in hand, prepared to bring listeners back to earlier, maybe even simpler days, with guitar-heavy tracks and ethereal vocals. The self-released album is in many ways a product of the time; the lyrics are a reflection on the painful ambivalence of the modern world and a sense of nostalgia that only times that feel like the end of the world can bring. The group has shown it is not afraid to experiment, ebbing and flowing alongside the fluid borders of post-punk, psychedelic indie rock, shoegaze, and electronic no wave. After a four year hiatus from any new releases, Preoccupations seems ready to be back out on the road, hitting more stops along the East Coast, before making appearances back home in Canada, as well as in Europe next year. With vocals and bass from Matt Flegel and Scott Munro on the guitar, the group is prepared to deliver a powerful experience to the District, reminding us of the beauty of our own existentialism and all the potential that post-punk has to offer.
