Show of the Week: Allie’s Anthologies
Show: Allie’s Anthologies
On-Air: Saturdays 11 am-12 pm
DJ: Allie Prescott, COL’14
Every Saturday late-morning, Allie’s Anthologies brings you a wide variety of music based around a weekly theme, making a great hangover cure after a wild Friday night. Allie promises one song per show that breaks the indie pop and rock genre barrier, and plans out her radio show in advance for the most effective song flow between choices. Read on for more information on Allie, her love for Florence Welch, her confusing / interesting theme party ideas, and her sample playlist which you can stream below. Also, if you walk by the window while she’s broadcasting, Allie might just bust a move or two.
If you could host anyone on your radio show, who would you pick?
Conor Oberst, Florence Welch or Lady Gaga.
I really started getting into music when I was 12 or so, and Conor Oberst is one of the few artists whose change in style has coincidentally aligned with my change in taste. I truly believe that “I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning” is one of the best albums of all time, and whether a lot of people know it or not, Conor is the voice of a generation. I would love to talk to Conor about his songwriting process and about his collaborations with so many of my other favorite artists.
Florence Welch is one of the few musicians to emerge in the past couple years who I think is truly revolutionary. I have listened to her debut album “Lungs” so many times, yet I always hear something new. It’s really rare to find an album with songs that are obviously unique but that fit together so cohesively. She is an incredible musician, performer, and emerging style icon. She also has some really weird ideas and is kind of a space cadet, so I think she would be very alluring and could definitely recommend some good tunes for my show. Also, I just love love love talking about her music because I could go on for hours.
I don’t even know where to begin with my explanation for Gaga. I guess I just want to know how and why she does what she does and what’s going on in that head of hers. Also, she’s clearly a very intelligent person, so I would love to just chat.
You’re having a theme party. What’s the theme?
Rubik’s cube. Show up in a bunch of different colors; be in one color by the end of the night.
Or, a mix of little black dress, cats, eski-hos and penguin bros, and trailer trash.
Favorite guilty-pleasure song?
“Can’t Be Tamed” by Miley Cyrus.
If your radio show was a sandwich, what kind of sandwich would it be?
A pepperoni roll (I grew up in WV and this is a “specialty” unique to the state)
+ avocado (to represent the Californian indie bands I love)
+ salmon (gotta love the Scandinavian bands)
+ dried cranberries (they’re sweet and so is my show)
+ cheese (because sometimes I do get a little cheesy)
+ white bread (for the mainstream music that creeps into my show)
+ rainbow sprinkles (just because I like them. also because they’re fun and unexpected)
What’s love got to do with it?
You know, it’s got a lot to do with everything. I stole this from “Love Actually”, but it’s true – love really is all around. (That’s the cheese on the sandwich that is my show.)

cutes pic?
cute pic.
