After two years of following The Morning Benders’ music since their 2008 tour with The Kooks, I would finally get to see the California foursome again. This time the encounter would not be in New York City, but instead Washington, DC. While the band may have opened for British Pop/Rock band the Kooks then, they headlined at the Black Cat on a Friday night after two opening bands, Oberhofer and Twin Sister. Did I mention it was a sold out show?

On Nov 16 two rising stars on the indie music scene, Glasser and Twin Shadow, played a sold-out show at the Black Cat Backstage. The disparate yet equally charismatic acts captivated the audience and threatened to burst the small venue at its seams. Read More »

On Saturday night, WGTB welcomed a sold out crowd of students and the DC public to Bulldog Alley for its annual fall concert. Best Coast headlined the evening with an energetic set of their signature California surf rock. WGTB favorite and DC local Long Walks on the Beach got the crowd dancing, and was followed by the hazy melodies of the newly signed Cults. This Saturday, we’re all going to be taught a little lesson on which coast is really the best. Our east coast doldrums due to the melancholy weather of November are about to be thrown for a loop when Best Coast brings us a little of those California chill vibes. Based out of LA, the trio will transform Bulldog Alley with their lo-fi surf sounds.

Non GU Students buy tickets HERE. Georgetown Students can grab tickets for $5 in Red Square all week.

Review: Ra Ra Riot & Givers @ 9:30 Club

Posted by on November 15th 2010 2

Givers

Friday night November 5th was exceptional, in more ways than one. First, I have never arrived at the 9:30 Club at 6:15 p.m. and felt late for a show. I almost missed the opening act. Second, I have never stood in the balcony there (new perspective!). Third, I am so thankful that I did not miss the opener. Givers out-shined and out-performed the headlining act Ra Ra Riot without a question. Fourth, I think I might take up drumming (I will explain this later.) I love a great night of mind-blowing surprises.

Interview with The Moondoggies

Posted by on June 14th 2010 0

Last Wednesday in Atlanta Caroline Klibanoff sat down with The Moondoggies before they headed to Bonnaroo and DC tonight. The interview is a bit noisy, but the friendly Seattle four-piece opened up about heir break from the local Seattle scene, the music they grew up on, improving their stage banter and of course the inevitable animal-fighting WGTB question of 2010.

They play tonight at the 9:30 Club, opening for Blitzen Trapper, and it’s a show you don’t want to miss. Check out the interview and stay tuned for Jared Iversen’s review of their newest album, later this week.
