Jeffrey Martin, indie folk singer-songwriter and former teacher based out of Portland, Oregon, will return to Washington, D.C. this Friday to perform at the locally beloved Pie Shop on H St NE. Thank God We Left The Garden, Martin’s latest album and the project he is currently touring, explores his adventures through small-town America, his relationship with himself, and, of course, his garden and garden shed. Much of his work features themes of existentialism—there is much searching to be done for meaning, purpose, and truth—and sometimes the world is just cruel. Through the expressive poetry of songs like “Paper Crown” and “Quiet Man,” Martin brings listeners into his intimate world and invites them to reflect on their experiences with being alive.
Strangely comforting, and with a blend of “stomp and flutter,” Thank God We Left The Garden is a tribute to stories of ourselves and the sensations of our existence.
