On Wednesday, March 13, The Anthem is set to welcome The Kooks to their stage in a night filled with infectious guitar riffs, soulful ballads, and stuck-in-your-head choruses. This will mark the British alt-rock band’s 11th stop on their 2024 North American tour as they travel the United States for “the first time in a long time.”
Formed in 2004, The Kooks’ experimental, Britpop sound has drawn inspiration from the 1960s British Invasion counter-culture movement and the new era post-punk revival. Since then, they’ve drawn comparisons to the Arctic Monkeys, the Sam Roberts Band, and the Thrills. Luke Pritchard, accompanied by lead guitarist Hugh Harris and drummer Alexis Nunez, fronts the band, belting through sharp melodies and witty, self-reflective lyrics with his thickly-accented, Julian Casablancas-esque tone. Their tour––“The Celebration of Inside In / Inside Out”––celebrates the 15th anniversary of their beloved first album, “Inside In / Inside Out,” which achieved quadruple platinum status in the UK. Save for a handful of fan favorites and recent releases like “Around Town,” the Kooks play their album straight through in its entirety, making for an evening of nostalgia and musical catharsis.
Tickets to see “the most popular band you’ve never heard of,” along with openers The Vaccines and Daisy The Great, are available here.
