Preview: This Is The Day! The The @ The Anthem 10/14

You pull back the curtains

And the sun burns into your eyes

You watch a plane flying

Across a clear blue sky

This is the day, your life will surely change

This is the day, that The The are coming to The Anthem on 10/14!

Beginning less as a traditional band, more a multimedia art collective (inspired by the Plastic Ono Band), THE THE were born out of the teenage Matt Johnson’s experiments with reel-to-reel tape – initially conducted in the basement of his parents’ pub, in Essex, and at De Wolfe Studios in London’s Soho, where Johnson worked as an apprentice sound engineer and used the downtime to make his own music.

THE THE emerged from the post-punk landscape, in an era of self-taught musicians and DIY experimentation, producing hits like “This is the day”, “Uncertain smile” and “Sweet bird of truth”. In May 2024, it was announced that Ensoulment, the band’s first studio album in nearly 25 years, will be released in September.

The Ensouled World Tour is coming to Washington DC on Monday, and the show will not have a support act, but instead be comprised of two sets, with an intermission in between. Set one will be the new album, Ensoulment, in its entirety, and set two will be a retrospective set of THE THE classics.

Tickets are going fast, but are still available on ticketmaster.
