Of Montreal is embarking on a special twentieth-anniversary tour in honor of its 2005 release The Sunlandic Twins (2005). The Sunlandic Twins is a labor of love of singer and songwriter Kevin Barnes. Barnes wrote this album in 2004 in the midst of being newly married, finding out his wife – the bass player in the band – was pregnant, and moving in with his brother in Athens, Georgia. The album was recorded almost entirely by Barnes, but the creation of the album was truly a family affair. Barnes’ brother created the enthralling album art and Barnes’ wife Nina plays bass and is featured vocally on the Bonus EP track “Keep Sending Me Black Fireworks”. The Sunlandic Twins is of Montreal’s biggest commercial success to date and marks the dawn of of Montreal’s signature vibrant synth-pop, electronic sound. This buoyant, syncopated sound is most notably marked by the hit single “Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games” which features a disco baseline, percussion with strong personality, and amusing lyrics.
