This Saturday, September 21st, Magdalena Bay takes the stage for a sold-out show at the 9:30 Club, marking the twelfth stop on their tour across North America and Europe. The Imaginal Mystery tour, which began early this month, celebrates the recent release of their highly anticipated second studio album, Imaginal Disk, which features their four singles, “Death & Romance,” “Image,” “Tunnel Vision,” and “That’s My Floor.”
The alternative synthpop duo, Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin, has been known as Magdalena Bay since 2016, after the two met in their high school’s art program. While Mica primarily covers vocals for the two, they write and produce their music together, making their creative process an entirely collaborative experience. Together, they have released two albums, three EPs, and three mixtapes, which they refer to as ‘mini mixes.’ Following the 2021 release of their first studio album, Mercurial World, the duo set out across North America, performing at numerous music festivals, including Primavera Sound, Coachella, and Lollapalooza. The duo is best known for its electronic and ethereal production style, accompanied by nostalgic yet futuristic green-screen imagery consistent with the music videos from their first mini mix and beyond. They have previously cited Grimes and Charli XCX, among others, as their muses.
Featuring Mexican indie-pop duo Valgur as their opener, this performance is guaranteed to be out of this world. Tickets are currently sold out, but if you’re lucky enough to come across one in the ether, you won’t want to miss this one of a kind audiovisual experience.
