Preview: Bombadil @ Songbyrd

Bombadil is a trio hailing from Durham, NC. They started in 2004 when guitarist Bryan Rahija and bassist Daniel Michalak were studying abroad in Bolivia while students at Duke University. Their first EP was released in May 2006. Since then, they’ve released six full albums.

Their newest album, Fences, just came out on March 3. It features folksy guitar riffs and beautiful harmonies. One of my favorite songs from the album is “Binoculars.” Simple during the verse with just guitar, a prominent bassline, and vocals, the song fills out during the chorus with the addition of piano and multi-part harmonies. It’s beautiful to listen to closely and to really pick apart the different parts. Nothing is lost in the background in this song.

The band is playing Saturday, April 1st, at Songbyrd in Adams Morgan. Tickets are $12 online and $15 at the door. Doors open at 7:30, and the show starts at 8:00. Check it out here, and listen to some of their top tracks below.
