Preview: Daffo Takes on the Black Cat This Saturday, 10/19

Daffo is set to perform at the Black Cat on Saturday the 19th of October. The Pennsylvanian singer-songwriter will join Illuminati Hotties on tour.

The up and coming artist, Gabriela Gamberg, has been releasing music under the pseudonym “Daffo” for the past three years, starting with their EP Crisis Kit in 2021. Their music really took off, however, with the release of the EP Pest, the artist’s folk-indie rock ode to the messiness youth.

Stand out songs, like “Poor Madeline” or “Good God,” accurately illustrate the feelings of rejection and desperation that the young singer felt in their teens, searching for a place to feel at home. This idea is especially true in their song “Seed,” with lyrics like “Couldn’t get tall in here I know” conveying themes of hopelessness in their environment and “Critters, eat me, I want to be nourishing / to see you feasting would make me feel so full” expressing the singer’s desire to be useful and wanted. Daffo’s feelings of shame are beautifully exposed by their angelic vocals throughout the EP. Daffo will perform songs like this and their newest single “Get A Life” released in September of this year.

Now joined by Illuminati Hotties, an American indie-rock band fronted and fueled by Sarah Tudzin, Daffo will take their teenage woes (and adulthood struggles) to stage, enchanting audiences with their experimental combination of folk inspired instrumentals with contemporary indie rock, played over the artist’s raw and human lyrics.
