Preview: Ginger Root at the Black Cat on October 20th, 2024

Ginger Root – singer-songwriter and instrumentalist Cameron Lew’s city pop multimedia project – is coming to Washington, DC on October 20th.

Performing at the Black Cat, Lew will be promoting his new album SHINBANGUMI (2024) which he released last month and described as “a record that was confident and unabashedly … ‘110% Ginger Root.’” Describing his music as “aggressive elevator soul,” Ginger Root’s music can be favorably compared to the likes of Vulfpeck. He draws heavily on ‘70s and ‘80s funk and soul, as well as elements of synth-pop and disco. Simply put, Ginger Root’s music – and music videos – ooze nostalgia and an infectious energy.

Tickets to the DC show can be bought online from the Black Cat. Supported by Japanese ‘dream punk’ artist Amaiwana, Ginger Root is currently touring North America before heading out to Europe later this year.
