Preview: The Growlers @ 9:30 Club

On Saturday night, The Growlers are set to share their singular sound with the 9:30 Club. The Cali rockers somehow blend elements of country, folk, psych rock, pop, and surf rock into their signature Beach Goth sound. The band’s fairly extensive tour has synchronized with the release of a few catchy and well-polished singles from their forthcoming album City Club. The new album is set to release September 30, just in time for Saturday’s show.

Produced by Julian Casablancas, frontman of The Strokes and Cult Records label head, City Club is the band’s fifth album. Going off the three released singles, Casablancas’ hand can be heard, specifically in the first few moments of “I’ll Be Around” with the energetic bounce of the bass guitar. So far, City Club offers a clean, perhaps less jangly, evolution in The Growlers’ sound.

While 9:30 is the host for this weekend’s show, The Growlers will switch roles and present their own festival on October 22-23rd in Orange County. Returning for the fifth year, Beach Goth is set to bring a stacked lineup to SoCal including Bon Iver, Grimes, Gucci Mane, James Blake, and TLC.
