So St. Patrick’s Day is my favorite holiday.  It doesn’t include extended family, presents, or being in love.  St. Patrick’s Day is just a holiday where you can hang out with your friends and enjoy simple things, like little green men and Irish music.  With that, everyone need’s a good St. Patty’s Playlist and what better place to get it than from WGTB. So please enjoy and remember that everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. Listen after the jump! Read More »

Playlist: Spring Break

As I sit curled up under two blankets on my couch telling my friends for the second and third times that yes, I am already on spring break, I can’t help but think that Georgetown gets it wrong. I understand. Really, I do. Any later into March and spring break would be too close to Easter, but come on — 40 degree highs and knitwear? This isn’t what spring break is about. It’s about enjoying rising temperatures or surf-side destinations, breaking out the cutoffs and bathing suits, soaking up the rays and sipping on tropical-flavored beverages. But if we can’t have that, we can at least have the soundtrack that goes with it: driving beats, jangly riffs, breezy lo-fi melodies. So grab your NSO shades, turn on the heat lamp and dig into these 16 cuts ranging from 1966 to 2012 and from The Beach Boys to Georgetown’s very own Text Message after the jump! Read More »

Playlist: Finals Week

Last time I wrote in these pages, I made a playlist to guide you through a finals week that had begun to feel at least a little bit like a zombie apocalypse. So you made if through that bloodbath alive, congratulations.

Lucky for all of us this finals week is a lot more like a transatlantic flight. It’s long and arduous, the air feels different, and you wish you could be moving your legs more often. You’ll probably spend the whole time wishing for it to end, but what can you do except buckle in, put on some music, and hope you’re sitting next to someone you like, or at least, someone who will leave their shoes on? And remember, at the end of this time you spend being held captive in Lau while having anxiety dreams in which you are chased by a gang of blood-thirsty blue books, something beautiful awaits you: your final destination. Which, if statistics prove to be correct, is most likely New Jersey. Read More »

Playlist: Late (for) Fall

Midterms finally came to an end; and when we collectively wandered bleary-eyed out of the depths of Lau, we realized autumn was upon us. Just as we began wrapping ourselves up in jackets and scarves and digging into our favorite pumpkin-flavored goodies, we found the leaves had changed and fallen and mid-November was here already. We were late for fall. But a few leaves are still clinging to the branches, and autumn’s got at least one more weekend of clear blue skies and crisp temperatures left in it. WGTB suggests you savor it while you can, and we made you this playlist to help. Warm up a mug of apple cider, settle down in a pile of leaves and click through to take a listen.

Playlist: Songs for Irene

Congratulations! You survived move-in day. Welcome to college. Now what? Any glance at the news (or out your window) will tell you that you should be tearing the last non-perishables off the shelves, barricading your windows, hoarding AA batteries, flashlights, stocking up on enough bottled water to last you through the Apocalypse and perhaps investing in a gondola. All of that checked off your list? Well, once you’ve made yourself comfortable–maybe curled in the fetal position in the middle of your room in a nest made of emergency supplies–press play. This one’s for you, Irene. We’ve got nothing else to do but wait for you. Read More »

Playlist: Heat Wave

Posted by on July 19th 2011 1

FRONTLINE -- "Hot Politics"

As we approach the end of July down in DC, the temperature is starting to flirt with triple digits. The air outside is thick with humidity, weighing us down and threatening to reduce us to sticky pools of sweat if we don’t find shelter. It can be tempting to rush from one indoor air-conditioned sanctuary to the next, but we can also embrace the heat, at least for a little while. Read More »
