Preview: Jorja Smith at The Anthem on Thursday, March 13th

Jorja Smith is heading to The Anthem on March 13th! The English singer is currently on her Falling or Flying North American Tour and Washington, D.C. is her last state-side stop.

Smith’s debut album, Lost and Found, was released in 2018, but her distinctive vocals garnered attention from the R&B world before then. In 2016, her first single, “Blue Lights,” got enough attention on Soundcloud to land her two features on Drake’s More Life. “On My Mind” was released shortly thereafter, helping Smith to secure a spot opening for Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour. Since Lost and Found, Smith has continued to be an influential and prominent voice in R&B. She has worked with artists like Kendrick Lamar and Burna Boy, and headlined a North American tour with Kali Uchis. With her 2021 EP, Be Right Back, Smith departed from her previous Garage inspired sound and opted for a more stripped down feel, allowing her mid-century-esque vocals to shine. Between her club anthem “Little Things,” her feature on the viral “Peng Black Girls Remix,” and her recent collaboration with AJ Tracey on “Crush,” Smith has proved herself to be a mainstay of R&B.

Smith’s latest album, Falling or Flying, is more varied and mature than her previous work. The album moves through her usual R&B and Afrobeats focus towards pop-punk and even slower ballads. Falling or Flying is as comforting as it is tender, with a solid throughline of reflection and realization. Following its original 2023 release, Smith also released both a reimagined and a deluxe version of the album.
Don’t miss your chance to hear Jorja Smith swing effortlessly between raps over grime backtracks and butter-smooth soul vocals. Tickets are still available for her show at The Anthem on March 7th at 8:00pm. Find them here.
