Artist to Watch: Letts

For the past few years, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes have become something like a household name – if your household is into indie folk, that is. The Los Angeles based group has released three studio albums, one EP, and several singles, all of which have garnered positive acclaim – but this week saw the release of something a little bit different. Christian Letts, who provides guitar, vocals, and mandolin for the group, has constructed a delightfully thoughtful solo album, called Hold Fast. Produced by Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons, Hold Fast takes the listener on a journey filled with smart chord progressions, evocative lyrics, and pure, striking, and sometimes Bob Dylan-esque vocals. Here’s hoping Letts decides to continue his solo career – his debut album is a real work of art.

For a sample of Letts’s sound, give standout tracks “Charles de Gaulle” and “Emeralds” a listen.
