Cage the Elephant, the alternative rockers behind hits like “Ain’t no Rest for the Wicked,” and “Come a Little Closer,” have announced their 4th studio album, Tell Me I’m Pretty, which is set to be released on December 18th of this year. The band, consisting of singer Matthew Shultz, guitarist Brad Shultz, drummer Jared Champion, and bassist Daniel Tichenor, has teamed up with producer Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys on their newest project. Tell Me I’m Pretty has been described by many as Cage the Elephant’s boldest and most adventurous project to date. Recorded at Easy Eye Sound in Nashville, Tennessee, the record aims to “[draw] from the sounds that initially inspired them to start making music.” In a statement, frontman Matthew Shultz stated that the band “wanted to capture the sentiment of each song, and whatever emotional response it provoked, to be really honest to that.”
This is not the first time Auerbach and Cage the Elephant have teamed up; Cage recently opened for the Black Keys during their Turn Blue world tour, which sold out concert venues across the world. Auerbach, other than producing Tell Me I’m Pretty, has been remarkably busy himself: working alongside Lana Del Rey on her LP Ultraviolence, and releasing Yours Dreamily, his first studio album with his new band, The Arcs. Yours Dreamily was released in September of 2015, and features the popular song “Outta My Mind” that has been receiving heavy airtime on multiple radio stations. Auerbach and the Arcs have about 2 more months left on their headlining world tour. Their last show for the year will be held in Tennessee on December 20th.
As for Cage the Elephant, other than a holiday gig in early December, the band has not yet announced any tour dates to support their new album. However, this Thursday, October 15th, they are putting on a ‘secret show’ in New York City, giving fans a chance to win tickets on their website. Hopefully, this upcoming gig will provide us with some insight on what to expect from Tell Me I’m Pretty, but in the meantime, the teaser trailer they released on Youtube will have to suffice.
You can pre-order Cage the Elephant’s new album at Pledge Music or on the band’s official website. Various exclusive items are also available such as hand written lyric sheets, signed drum heads, and autographed vinyl test pressings.
