regeneration

Re:Generation is the soundtrack component of the Re:Generation Music Project by Amir Bar-Lev, a documentary that follows the history of music by combining old and new, classic and electronic. On Re:Generation, five of today’s most influential electronic dance music producers- Mark Ronson, DJ Premier, The Crystal Method, Pretty Lights, and Skrillex- spin EDM into classical, rap, jazz, country, and rock. The album is not just a timeline compilation- each song spans across a multitude of genres and time periods. Re:Generation is a piece of woven art- a euphonic quilt.

Lana vs. Lana Part II

Note: We here at The Rotation thought we’d get a two-sided look at LDR’s latest album. This second installment is the negative review, written by Stephen Choi:

Saturation is a strange thing. It’s pervasive, it’s insistent, you turn around and its there, glaring right back at you. It craves the battle cry of the public; it fuels itself on both anger and love. So, it isn’t surprising how the static overload of Lana Del Rey’s dividing ascent has seized the attention of Georgetown’s various news outlets; only furthering the divvying momentum of her latest album, Born to Die.

Lana Del Rey’s Latest Effort Was Born to Die

Note: We here at The Rotation thought we’d get a two-sided look at LDR’s latest album. The first installment is the positive review:

Before you read this review you should know that despite the title of this album review, I hold nothing against Lana Del Rey other than this monotonous, at times boring, album. The questions about her authenticity, whether they stem from claims that her persona is contrived and false or that her career was a present to an untalented singer from her millionaire father’s pocket, have little to do with her music.

Single Review: Jack White, “Love Interruption”

Jack White certainly likes his dark lyrics, doesn’t he? Following his trajectory from the White Stripes through the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, there is certainly an abundance of dark images. On his latest single, “Love Interruption,” White does not hold back from filling our minds with dark images as he sings, “I want love to walk right up and bite me / grab a hold of me and fight me, leave me dying on the ground.” That being said, he certainly plays to his strengths, as “Love Interruption” is a hauntingly good song. WGTBoard Show: TONIGHT 10-11pm

Posted by on January 31st 2012 1

boardshow

So here’s something new: Every Tuesday night, our executive board will be hosting a show from 10-11pm. Generally, this will give us a chance to bring in guests, share new music we get in at the station, highlight blog content on-air, dramatically perform Shakespeare soliloquies, etc. But we’d also like to hear from you! We welcome questions, comments and concerns. How are your first few days of DJing going? Did you like Marathon Day? Did you make new friends? We also welcome lively on-air debates. Is dirt inherently dirty? Is Lana Del Rey overrated/overhated? Is Big Boi still in jail?

And we are always more than willing to dole out advice (disclaimer: it may not be good advice, though).

Listen in tonight from 10-11pm and put 202-687-9482 on speed dial!

Album Review: Metallica, Beyond Magnetic

Posted by on January 25th 2012 0

Metallicabeyondmagnetic

As a gesture of goodwill towards all fans, Metallica have released a four song EP, titled Beyond Magnetic, as part of their 30 year anniversary celebration. Originally, the four tracks were debuted at each night of Metallica’s 30 year anniversary concerts at the Fillmore in San Francisco (open only to card carrying fan-club members) and then released the studio tracks to fan clubbers. Now all four songs, the four outtake songs that did not make their last studio album, 2008’s Death Magnetic, are now available through iTunes and Amazon. The tracks, still being outtakes, do have a slightly rough audio mix, but that does not ultimately affect the tracks in a negative way. Read More »
