Arlo Parks will be playing at Union Stage on October 26th with MICHELLE, as part of the 2021 Collapsed in Sunbeams Tour. Debuting earlier this year, Collapsed in Sunbeams has received widespread acclaim, peaking at #3 on UK’s Top Albums and #4 on US Heatseekers. With Collapsed in Sunbeams, Parks has received nominations for Album of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best British Female Solo Artist at the 2021 Brit Awards. The album also won the 2021 Hyundai Mercury Prize for Best Album.
According to Parks, Collapsed in Sunbeams features “a series of vignettes and intimate portraits surrounding adolescence and the people that shaped it. It is rooted in storytelling and nostalgia – I want it to feel both universal and hyper specific.” The album is introspective but idealistic, vulnerable yet versatile, jazzy and perfectly poppy. Recorded in quarantine, Collapsed in Sunbeams features collaborations with Gianuca, Paul Epworth (Adele, Glass Animals) David Wrench (Frank Ocean, Sampha), and even guitar and background vocals from Clairo (“Green Eyes”).
Parks, born Anaïs Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho, hails from West London where she first received attention for single “Cola” (2018). Prior to Collapsed in Sunbeams, Parks released two EP’s (Super Sad Generation (2019) and Sophie (2019). Her EP’s have earned her places on the BBC Sound Poll, Dazed’s 100 List, covers with NME and Evening Standard, an AIM One to Watch win, BBC Introducing Artist Of The Year Award, debut appearances on COLORS and Later.
MICHELLE will be opening for Arlo Parks. A predominantly POC and queer 6-person collective from New York, MICHELLE’s vibrant vocals, textured percussion, and glittery synth sound crosses genre with elements of funk, R&B, pop, and more.
