“Technicolour Beat” – Oh Wonder

Minimalist, yet intimate. Oh Wonder’s small collection of tracks, with just one released each month, dazzle with their mastery of simplicity and balance. The tracks emanate both R&B and jazz overtones, but stray from the gargantuan beats of artists like Purity Ring and Flume. It’s no surprise, then, that the effortlessly cool “Body Gold” and “Lose It” set the standard high for this month’s much-anticipated track, “Technicolour Beat.” The new release reflects the duo’s experimental streak, leaning towards a more electronic sound and utilizing repetitive loops. While the individual parts are tasteful and deliberate, though, when put together they lack the sense of unanimity that the previous tracks had. Hopefully, Oh Wonder will capture the magic the next time around.
