Music Video: “Hotline Bling” – Drake

In the three days since the release of Drake’s highly anticipated video for ‘Hotline Bling’ on Apple Music, mass hysteria has ensued. Many fans took to the internet to comment on his dance moves, his turtleneck, and just about every other minute detail in the pared down, pastel video. It’s already well on its way to being gif’ed into oblivion and may even be responsible for the track moving up in the Billboard charts to the number one spot in the coming weeks. At the helm was Director X, who has previously directed for the likes of Kanye, Nicki Minaj and several other high-profile artists.

The attention-grabbing video opens and closes on cubicles full of operators for what appears to be a phone-sex hotline. Then the action moves to sleek geometric and monochromatic spaces, making it easy to focus on Drake’s moves and not much else. Even though the choreography has been compared to your drunken uncle at a family function, his cha-cha skills are truly unrivaled. The number at the end with his female counterpart, who bears a strong resemblance to rumored-girlfriend, Serena Williams, reminds us that Drizzy is all about having a good time (and making calls on cell phones). If you can’t get ‘Hotline Bling’ out of your head, you’ll probably have a tough time watching this video only once.
